Cowichan Valley is located on Vancouver Island, one of the most beautiful regions of British Columbia with moderate climate.  Vancouver Island is well known for its ocean beaches, large trees, beautiful lakes and mountains.  The natural scenery attracts large number of domestic and international visitors all year long.

Cowichan Valley is conveniently located halfway between the city of Nanaimo and the capital city Victoria on Vancouver Island. This provides all the services and shopping of a large city only 40 minutes away and the safety and slower pace of a smaller community.

Cowichan Valley School District (CVSD) aims to deliver learning opportunities that ensure the individual success of all students within a safe, caring and supportive environment.  The International Student Program is delivered through its 4 secondary schools and 2 elementary schools.  International students come from all over the world and they are well taken care by a local host family while they are studying in Canada.

Teachers are patient and offer both academic and social support for international students.  Apart from gaining a unique Canadian experience, a balancing academics and the beautiful outdoors, international students are offered the opportunities to develop leadership qualities, become socially responsible and understand the role of lifelong learning.

Long Term Program

The Long Term program focuses on improving English skills, making Canadian friends and living a genuine Canadian experience!  International students will take courses with local Canadian students, and may also take ESL (English as Secondary Language) as a mandatory course or as an optional support program with highly qualified ESL teachers. International students are encouraged to participate in many extra-curricular activities in addition to classroom study.

Short Term Program

The Short Term Program consists of ESL classes along with a selection of non-academic courses.  It is a great way for international students who are interested in experiencing Canada, and its culture, for the first time.

Summer Program

Cowichan Valley’s Experience Canada International Student Summer Program provides international students with a unique Canadian experience. The summer program combines education, fun and culture for international students.  Apart from ESL lessons, students will participate in a wide range of activities such as visiting the beautiful cities of Victoria and Vancouver, hiking, kayaking, learning Canadian culture, archery and many more.  Through the activities and living with a local Canadian family, international students are able to experience and practice their English in an encouraging and fun environment and experience the Canadian culture.
