Located in the southern hemisphere close to Australia, New Zealand comprises of two main islands, North Island and the South Island, together with numerous smaller islands. Country area is about 260,000km2.


In North Island, Auckland and Wellington are the 2 major cities which are the commercial city and capital city of New Zealand respectively. In South Island, Christchurch and Dunedin are the 2 major cities.


Population in New Zealand is around 4 million and majority of them reside in the North Island. As early migrants were mainly from Europe, English becomes the official language in New Zealand.

 

Climate

Climate in New Zealand is mild. It is dry in summer (December to February) with temperature range 20-30 degrees Celsius.   Winter (June to August) is wet with temperature range 10-15 degree Celsius.  New Zealand has above average rainfall particularly in North Island during winter.

 

Time Difference

New Zealand is 4 hours ahead of Hong Kong in winter but 5 hours ahead in summer.
