Academic year in UK consists 3 terms, each run for 7 to 14 weeks. Semesters are divided by Christmas, Easter and summer holidays.
Primary and Secondary School
Formed by state schools and
international schools. International students can only apply to
independent schools or international schools Local students may apply to state schools. Some states schools also provide boarding facilities Due to age limitation and place availability, applications should be submitted 9 months to 1 year before the course commenced Boarding faciltiies are provided by most independent schools
GCSE - General Certificate of Secondary Education (2 years duration)
For students who have reached 16 years old (Year 11) English, Mathematics and Science are mandatory subjects, students have to study for another 4 to 5 subjects Students get grade 9 to 4 in any 5 subjects are eligible to progress into GCE A-Level or other education pathway
GCE A-Level (2 years duration) University Foundation and International Year One (6-12 months duration each) Designed for international students Articulated
with specific universities. After completion of the Foundation or
International Year One programme, students can proceed to the chosen
bachelor degree of the articulated universities
University
Bachelor degree with an Honour
normally takes 3 years to complete. Some degree courses such as medicine
and dentistry are required to take 4 years or longer Some
universities may offer Combined or Joint Honours degree. Combined
degree means students may study for 2 courses in different areas. Joint
degree means 2 courses in similar areas Some
universities offer sandwich degree course in 4 years under which
students will take 1 year internship (i.e. work experience) in related
industry in the third year Postgraduate Certificate / Diploma, Masters and PhD degrees are offered for graduated students
