The School Founded in 1924, KnoxGrammar Schoolis an independent and non-selectiveUnitingChurchday and boarding boys' school inSydney. With 1,800 students from Kindergarten to Year 12, the School offers boarding for up to 130 boys from Year 7 onwards. In addition to the 169 teaching staff, the School has employed 46 additional staff as visiting music, physical education and information resource teachers, and as ancillary support staff. The School campuses are located in Wahroonga, a beautiful suburb of 25 kilometres from Sydney CBD, on the city'sUpperNorthShore. The School is close to public transport and highways.

 

All-round Education

KnoxGrammar School is renowned for its all-round education to develop "the whole boy" where innovation is successfully incorporated with tradition.

 

The School has a strong academic reputation and offers a broad range of subjects including accelerated extension and university placement programs.

 

The da Vinci Programme is the School's learning enrichment and acceleration programme for the many highly able boys at Knox. 500 boys from both Junior andSeniorSchoolsare participating in the da Vinci Programme every year.

 

Balance Education

The School believes that boys today need to be taught how to use modern technology and tools effectively. All boys are introduced to enhanced learning through the notebook computer programme from Year 5 boys. Each boy is strongly encouraged to involve himself in cultural activities such as music, drama, debating, the Toastmasters' course and speech. All boys are also encouraged to attain an appropriate balance of interests, and to keep their academic studies at the forefront of their School programme.

 

Academic Performance

Knox has maintained a very remarkable academic performance at the Higher School Certificate (HSC) results for all Year 12 students every year. In the 2009 HSC results, a total of 320 Band 6 results (90% and above) were recorded of which 8 boys had attained 90% in their best 10 units, making them eligible for Premier's Awards (i.e. Distinguished Achievers List). Knox boys outperformed the state quite significantly in 36 subjects out of 38 subjects.  42% of Knox boys ranked the top 10% of the state in the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) in 2009.

 

Facilities

The School grounds encompass educational, boarding and sporting facilities including dedicated buildings for Administration, Library, Academic, Science, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Auditorium and Chapel; new boarding centre; multi-purpose Physical Education Centre containing indoor heated swimming pool, diving pool, gymnasium with 2 basketball courts, weights room and 4 squash courts; tennis courts, 2 outdoor basketball courts, 4 large ovals and other playing fields for outdoor sports and activities. All classrooms are equipped with a digital projector and each student has a laptop with wireless internet access.

 

Co-curricular Activities

Knox offers an extensive range of sports including basketball, chess, cricket, cross country, diving, karate, lawn bowls, orienteering, sailing, senior weight training, soccer, squash, surf lifesaving, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball and water polo for students. Knox has a long tradition of involvement with the Australian Army Cadet Corps. At present, there are 20 Officers of Cadets and over 500 boys in the Unit. The training emphasises leadership, and living and surviving in the outdoor environment.


Knox has a strong tradition of musical performance and drama production. The School has 3 Concert Bands, 2 String Orchestras, a Joint-School Orchestra, a Pipe Band and many Ensembles. Other co-curricular activities include Drama, Debate, Public Speaking, Chess, Science Club and Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.

 

International Opportunities

Students have the opportunity to participate in international exchange programmes to Knox partner schools in theUS,UK,Canada,New ZealandandArgentina.

 

Many boys participate in the international exchange programmes as part of their studies in languages, music, art or history. Knox also organizes overseas sporting tours for cricket, basketball and rugby players every year.

 

Scholarships

KnoxGrammar School offers an extensive range of scholarships each year. These include academic, boarding and music scholarships for boys entering theSeniorSchoolin Years 7 and 11, plus an academic scholarship for boys entering Year 5 in theJuniorSchool. The annual Scholarship Examination is held in February and March
